Do JL subwoofers need to be broken in?
A common question is if JL Audio speakers or subwoofers require a break in period. The answer is no. The most important thing is to make sure that you are careful in matching up the amplifier’s RMS rating to the RMS rating of the particular speaker or subwoofer(s) you intend to use.
How long should you let a subwoofer break in?
We suggest 20-24 hours for a solid break in time. You can set it with a good clean signal overnight. Once this is done you are ready to install and be on your way.
How long do JL subs last?
Registered. There are a lot of variables that will impact how long your equipment lasts, but in general a good sub can last for 20+ years.
Do subs get louder after break in?
Subwoofers should not get louder as they break-in. Instead, they will adjust to the varying frequencies provided and will most effectively play the sounds that are coming through.
Is it normal for subs to get warm?
When clipping is present the subwoofer moves less than normal due to the plateaus in the waveform and in turn causes excess heat to build up. Over time this excess heat causes the voice coil to break down and eventually fail.
What happens if you don’t break your subwoofer?
If you choose to forgo breaking your sub in, you risk shortening the lifespan of the subwoofer and lowering the sound quality of the bass. While failing to break in a new sub will not result in any serious damage, it does mean your subwoofer is unable to perform at its very best.
Why do Subs stink?
Do new subwoofers smell? Most new subwoofers produce a smell when their voice coil heats for the first time. When this happens, it means there is an excess glue on the voice coil that burns as the voice coil heats. And this results in a burnt smell from the subwoofers.
Is 1 ohm or 2 ohm subwoofer better?
At 1 ohm, you will get more power output from your amplifier and your subwoofers will play louder than if you wired them to a 2 ohm load. You can also save some money by wiring your subwoofers to a 1 ohm load.
