What happened to Robar?
Robar, renowned for their self-lubricating NP3 finishes and which has been in business for more than 35 years, is officially closing their doors. Customers have received the following email: Today is the last day that we will be in business.
What is Robar NP3?
NP3 is an Electroless Nickel/PTFE coating that combines sub-micron particles of Teflon with Electroless Nickel. Skipping all of the technical jargon, the simplest explanation is that it is a dry lubricated, low friction surface that is extremely hard and resistant to wear.
What is mp3 coating?
NP3 is a surface treatment for various metals and alloys that combines sub-micron particles of PTFE (Polytetraflouro-ethylene) with autocatalytically applied nickel/phosphorus. The result is an accurately applied, dry lubricated, low friction surface that is extremely hard and resistant to wear.
What color is NP3 coating?
metallic gray
NP3 is a soft metallic gray color, somewhat similar to bead-blasted stainless steel or titanium. NP3 has a micro hardness of 48-51 Rockwell as plated (nickel matrix). NP3 has PTFE also known as Teflon® co-deposited in the nickel matrix.
What is a black Melonite finish?
Melonite is basically salt bath ferritic nitrocarburizing, also known as liquid nitrocarburizing. Melonite is also called Tenifer by Glock. It is the finish we use on all our black slides and its durability is unparalleled by any black finish we have used.
What’s better DuraCoat or Cerakote?
DuraCoat – Weighing Your Options For the Best Firearm Finish. Measuring would probably be a better word. Cured Cerakote absolutely beats cured DuraCoat in every measurable respect with regard to finish quality, abrasion resistance, and overall toughness.
What is the difference between zinc plating and nickel plating?
Zinc plating is primarily used to increase corrosion resistance on smaller metallic parts such as nuts, bolts and screws. Nickel plating can harden the surface of the substrate, which increases wear resistance. Nickel also provides superior protection against corrosion.
Is Melonite harder than Chrome?
The melonite coating provides a thinner surface than chrome-lining, so bore friction is reduced for better accuracy. In addition, melonite is harder than chrome-lining providing a longer wear life.
